5 Signs Your Car Needs a New Engine

While you may not want to replace your car's engine, there may come a time when a replacement is necessary. Before complete engine failure, your car will start showing signs that it's time to replace your engine. Keep reading to discover some a few signs your car needs a new engine.

1. Constant Overheating

A constantly overheating engine is often a sign of a cracked engine block, which is unrepairable. Each time your engine overheats, it does more damage to the head and rods, which will cause it to run incorrectly. Your engine will eventually fail completely and will need to be replaced.

2. Excessive Exhaust Fumes

Exhaust fumes, especially if they're excessive, can be a sign that oil, coolant, or gasoline are leaking into the engine. This shouldn't happen. The engine should be a closed system where other liquids can't get into it. Ignoring this symptom can lead to irreparable engine damage.

3. Frequent Knocking Noises

Those loud knocking noises you hear are the pistons hitting the cylinder block, meaning some damage has occurred inside your engine. If you don't deal with this issue, eventually, one of the pistons will become damaged, shutting down your engine.

4. Metal Shavings in the Oil

The metal in oil is actually coming from parts of your engine that are disintegrating. They can't be fixed because they're crumbling. As oil flows through your engine, keeping the parts lubricated, the liquid picks up these shavings and can cause even more damage to the system.

5. Loss of Power

When your car stops and the engine cuts off, it can be a sign that your engine has reached the end of its lifespan. There aren't repairs that can be made and you’ll need to replace the whole engine.
